"Men tend to lack intimacy in their friendships. ... divorce, bereavement and retirement can affect men more than women because male friendships are more focused around work or are borrowed almost wholesale from wives and girlfriends."

Max Dickens "Billy No-Mates: How I Realised Men Have A Friendship Problem", 2022

All too often men feel unable to talk about their emotions and in particular their vulnerabilities and pain.  Some men can confide in a sister or a close female friend, rarely in a close male friend.  Why is it so hard for men to access support and help in times of crisis?  The group with the highest suicide rate is young men. I hope society is changing and we are better equipping our boys and men emotionally.

Almost half (47%) of men do not talk openly with friends about their problems;

Nearly a third (27%) said they do not have any close friends or any friends at all;

Two in three men aged 16-24 would rather be known as ‘short fused’ than ‘vulnerable’
